Followingthe cancelation of press previewsand the game skipping Tokyo Game Show last month (even if the game is set in Japan), it seems more bad news has surfaced forAssassin’s Creed: Shadows – though this time, it’s for those who wanted to play it early.

Over on the official Assassin’s Creed Discordserver, Ubisoft Community Manager “Ubi-RealDude” confirmed that early access for the game has completely been scrapped. For those not aware of this marketing tactic, Ubisoft, along with other video game publishers, now offer a few days' early access to their games with the condition that gamers will need to either pre-order the game, or buy a higher tiered edition. Ubisoft is no stranger to this marketing ploy, and offered it for AC Shadows' Gold, Ultimate and Collector’s editions.

Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Three-Day Early Access No Longer Available

While Ubisoft didn’t give a reason as to why early access is being pulled, in a new FAQ published on the series' Discord for the Collector’s Edition, Ubi-RealDude posted, " No, there is no early access for AC Shadows anymore" and this applies to all editions of the game. There is a slight silver lining to it, as the Collector’s Edition’s price has been reduced. Before, the Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Collector’s Edition was priced at $279.95, and now it’s at $229.95 – which means buyers will get to save a cool $50 from the total purchase price.

The Plot of Assassin’s Creed in 60 Seconds

Requiescat in pace

Originally set to be released in November, Ubisoft has delayed Assassin’s Creed: Shadows' release date to August 14, 2025. While a game being delayed is not good news, based on our hands-off preview, a delay is exactly what the game needed as it mentions, “If you’ve played any Assassin’s Creed game in the last 10 years, you’ve already seen most of what Assassin’s Creed Shadows is bringing to the table save for its feudal Japanese setting. Yasuke, as a character, seems to be the only thing keeping me interested in the game which is a shame because based on how Ubisoft was talking up Shadows as something of a mechanical recentering for the series, I was expecting something new.”

This latest snag with Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is the latest in Ubisoft’s recent struggles. Earlier this month, it was reported that the company’s long-in-development pirate game Skull and Bones costa whopping $850 million to develop, and is said to be the main reason for the publisher’s financial hardships. It’s gotten so bad that Ubisoft isreportedly in talks with Chinese mega corporation Tencentin order to privatize the company.
