The latest gameplay video shown at the Future Games Show digital event at Gamescom previewed some of the mythical creatures in upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Gameplay Features Mythical Creatures and Legends

This weekend Gamesradar Future Games Show digital event took place during Gamescom revealing some new gameplay for upcomingAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. It features some of mythical enemies players will face during side quests. The video was narrated by director Darby McDevitt, detailing some amazing figures and creatures players will encounter.

The first to be featured was the Black Shuck, a black dog from English mythology that would easily sink it’s teeth into humans, tearing them apart. McDevitt explained that this mythic creature was said to be found in East Anglia, a part of many “tales about black dogs that roam the night”.

Valhalla incorporates many myths, inspiring bloodthirsty creatures, but these aren’t the only enemies players will tango with. There are many human figures players will find throughout, which include the daughters of King Lyrian. The king is a reference from Shakespeare’s King Lear, who is actually based from a figure quite long ago. He is betrayed by his people of East Anglia. The three daughters are there to protect the king’s legacy.

The last figure highlighted is King Ragnar, who was once a leader with loyal men. But since his fall, these six men wander aimlessly, without a real purpose. Eivor can talk with them to get their “side of the story”, then offer them what they want most, to die an honourable death in battle and join their beloved jarl.

The spotlight on these side quests actually makes me more excited for the game, because it adds further backstory and colour to the world of Valhalla. Sometimes side quests in games can be pretty memorable or just adds further dimension.

Other featurespreviously revealedinclude more Action-RPG features including a stamina bar and health items which are not too dissimilar fromDark Souls‘ Estus Flasks. You can also switch between a male and female Eivor anywhere in the game.
