InElden Ring Nightreign, you may feel conflicted about which characters to choose to play and stick with according to your playstyle. The variety of characters you can choose from has quite a few different options available to you right away. Whether you wish to be a caster, archer, swordsman, or tank, there are all these options available to you. Guardian is most likely one character to be in the tank category, much like Raider. However, Guardian plays a lot more defensively than Raider’s aggressive playstyle.
Review: Elden Ring Nightreign
The spin-off to one of the best games in the last five years, can Nightreign live up to the high expectations of Elden Ring?
Guardian’s Abilities
Living up to his name, Guardian seeks to protect the party from incoming damage.
Ability Name
Description
Steel Guard
Plant your feet and brace with a shield for a more powerful guard. Greatly improves guard boost, but prevents running while holding up a shield.
Passive Ability
Beat wings to whip up a wind-churning cyclone. Enemies caught in the cyclone are drawn toward the center. Sweeps away lightweight projectiles and can be held to enlarge the range.
Character Skill
Wings of Salvation
Leap up and dive back down to raise a protective aura. You can move briefly while in the air, and the dive attack can restore downed party members. Hold the ability when landing to shield nearby allies from damage.
Ultimate Art
While it may not seem like his abilities amount to much, Guardian is fantastic at providing defensive support to the party and pairs well with almost every character for most bosses in the game. His starter shield is already stellar, and it gives you room to look for some better weapons rather than looking for a better shield as well. Whirlwind is a great ability to use when surrounded by enemies, but it does become somewhat lackluster when facing up against bosses. There are some relics within the game that do manage to give the skill some utility, like reflecting a portion of damage taken back at your enemies, but it’s a move to save for when you have that group of enemies closing in on you and your party.
Guardian’s Ultimate Art, Wings of Salvation, is a powerful ability you can use to either deal some extra damage to a boss or bring a teammate back from being incapacitated. This ultimate is different from many others as well, since you can hold the input when you land and provide invulnerability and hardness while in your area of effect. This is an extremely useful ability with some of the harder fights in the game, providing support while your party can focus on healing up or dealing some more damage to the bosses.

Weapon Priority
Try to take any high-tier weapons that scale with Strength.
When picking out weapons when going through each map and taking down bosses, you’ll want to prioritize Halberds. These will work best with Guardian’s kit, but if you are having trouble finding one, you can still use most weapons that scale with strength. It should also be noted that his FP is extremely low compared to the rest of the cast of characters; you don’t want to grab most caster weapons. It may be a good idea to pick up Sacred Seals available for loot occasionally. These will allow some light healing for you to use in the middle of the fight to keep your party topped up on health and safe from danger.
Some notable halberds you may want to seek out are the Golden Halberd and Gargoyle’s Black Halberd. These are some of the ideal halberds you’re able to find regularly on your adventures, but they are never guaranteed. Spears, swords, and even crossbows are all going to do well in his hands due to the nature of how this character operates.

Preferred Talismans and Relics
Increase your stamina for guarding or your Guard Counters and Ability.
Your preferred talismans are unlikely to be a guarantee of finding them in Elden Ring Nightreign. While some pop up more often than others, there is always a good chance you’ll run into some that are ideal for your character and what they need to become better. For Guardian, you’ll want to keep an eye out for ones like the Curved Sword Talisman to increase your Guard Counters. The Greatshield Talisman is also a great option, as it will increase your general Guarding Ability. Some other talismans that would work for Guardian would be the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman and the Spear Talisman. The general idea for Guardian is to take the base parts of his kit and make them even stronger with these additions, but unlike relics, these are completely random when you go into a run.
The Relics that you should go with are along the same lines as your talisman choices. Some of the relics you may obtain in runs will have some traits that are specific to certain characters. Here, you’ll want to progress through runs and obtain relics that can reflect a portion of the damage received when activating your passive ability with Guardian. Another fairly common relic drop will be one that will provide HP recovery from guarding attacks, making it extremely ideal for Guardian and works perfectly with his abilities.

Guardian is a tank character through and through in Elden Ring Nightreign; he shields the party, and the priority above all else is taking the aggro from your party members and putting it on yourself. He’s a strong tank, but has some weaknesses you should know about when you pick him as your character for battle. Guardian is weak against flying enemies, giving him a much harder time when fighting bosses that move around the arena. The lower FP also makes him less ideal for spell casting, making your options on those spells you can cast extremely limited.
