In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are a total of 148Skillsthat have unique effects, and each one of them is helpful in a particular aspect when you are playing the game. A lot of the skills that were in the previous games make a return with a few newly added skills.

Best Light Bowgun Skills in MHWilds - Ballistics

The biggest change to skills in Monster Hunter Wilds is that some of the Equipment skills that were on the armor pieces in the previous games have been moved to the weapons. This particular change makes it so that you will not be locked into specific monster trees when using a particular weapon.

In this guide, we will be taking a look at the skills that will bring out theLight Bowgun’sfull potential during your hunts.Being close cousins both the Light Bowgun and Heavy Bowgun benefit from a lot of the same skills.

Best Light Bowgun Skills in MHWilds - Special Ammo Boost

The Light Bowgun is the more agile and aggressive cousin of the two bowguns, and as such its strength lies in a run-and-gun playstyle where the hunter is constantly on the move and chipping away at the monster’s health with constant gunfire. As such, the best skills for the Light Bowgun are those that increase the strength of the weapon to bring out its full potential during your hunts.

The Best Tier Skills for the Light Bowgun

The best skills to have in your loadout when using the Light Bowgun include Ballistics, Special Ammo Boost, Opening Shot, Evade Extender, Evade Window, Burst, and Partbreaker. The Ballistics, Special Ammo Boost, and Opening Shot skills are equipment skills found on the weapons, while the Evade Extender, Evade Window, Burst, and Partbreaker skills are found on the armor pieces.

Ballistics

Ballistics –The reason the Ballistics skill is the best skill for the Light Bowgun is simply that it extends the effective range of the Light Bowgun. When using the Light Bowgun, the hunter will want to stay as far away from the monster as possible while remaining within the optimal range of the weapon to be effective when hunting. The Ballistics skill widens the distance between the hunter and the monster by increasing the effective range of the Light Bowgun, giving more room to dodge when the monster attacks.

Special Ammo Boost

Special Ammo Boost –The Special Ammo Boost skill is amazing to have on the Light Bowgun because it increases the damage of your special ammo—whether it is the wyvernblast mine or the adhesive ammo, whichever one you are using with the Light Bowgun at the moment.

Opening Shot

Opening Shot –The next skill, Opening Shot, increases the bowgun’s reload speed and the power of the bullets when fully loaded. Although this increase in power is substantial, it only affects the first bullet per magazine; however, this can accumulate into a huge increase in overall damage across the entire duration of the hunt.

Although no Light Bowgun has a combination of all these skills on the weapon, it is still possible to use all three skills simultaneously using decoration slots and available jewels.

Best Light Bowgun Skills in MHWilds - Opening Shot

Evade Extender

Evade Extender –The Evade Extender skill increases the distance of your evades, and for the Light Bowgun, this increase in distance is really helpful because you need as much room as possible to maneuver around the monster and its attacks while laying down fire.

Evade Window

Evade Window –The Evade Window skill increases the invulnerability window of your evades, giving you more safety with your dodges when using the Light Bowgun.

TheEvade ExtenderandEvade Windowskills are good to have when using a Light Bowgun, as they are especially helpful against larger monsters with huge multi-hit attacks that can cover a wide portion of the arena you are fighting in. Having these skills will provide you with more breathing room when dodging the monster’s attacks.

Burst –The next skill, Burst, is an equipment skill that gives your attacks a temporary increase in attack value, with an additional increase after the fifth strike. This works well with the Light Bowgun, especially when using Rapid Fire mode, as you will be hitting the monster at least three to five times with each shot. Even in standard mode, you can hit the monster in quick succession using chaser shots, and this skill will allow you to rapidly increase your attack power using the Light Bowgun.

Partbreaker

Partbreaker –The Partbreaker skill increases the damage you do to the weak parts of the monster—for example, the head and the tail—making it easier to break them, and also increases the damage you do when you destroy the wounds inflicted on the monster during the hunt. This skill is outstanding for the Light Bowgun, as you will be aiming for the monster’s weak points most of the time, increasing your overall damage. The additional 30% increase in damage when using Focus Strike will deal huge amounts of damage, especially if it is a charged-up shot when using the Light Bowgun.

Although it can be a little challenging to put these skills together, the flexibility offered by the decoration slots and the talisman slot will allow you to have all these skills in your loadout when using the Light Bowgun.

Best Light Bowgun Skills in MHWilds - Evasion Jewel

Second Best Tier (Tier II) Light Bow gun skills

This set of skills is not necessarily the best to have when using the Light Bowgun but will help enhance specific aspects of the weapon.

TheTetrad Shotskill increases the affinity of the shots from your Light Bowgun up to two levels after the fourth and sixth shots. Since most of the default ammo counts per magazine for different ammo types vary between three and five shots without any boost from customization mod slots, the skill is useful for very specific types of ammo with at least six shots per magazine. This specific requirement is the reason why this skill is in the second best tier.

Artillery –The Artillery skill increases the strength of explosive attacks, and for the Light Bowgun, it increases the power of the wyvern blast mine, adhesive ammo, and sticky ammo. However, this skill only affects those ammo types, placing it in the Tier II category.

Stamina Surge

Stamina Surge –Next, we have the Stamina Surge skill. This skill increases the stamina recovery speed by up to 50% at the highest level (level 3), and it is useful for the Light Bowgun user. Having this skill in your loadout will help with overall mobility when using the Light Bowgun because the stamina bar will regenerate a good amount between your dodges while you are firing at the monster, minimizing the chance of your stamina running out the moment you need to evade.

Rapid Fire Up

Rapid Fire Up –The next skill, Rapid Fire Up, is a decoration-exclusive skill that is not found on any equipment. This skill increases the damage the Light Bowgun does in Rapid Fire mode by 5% and is good to have when you have a level three decoration slot available to use on the weapon.

Optional skills for the Light Bowgun

These skills are not the best, but they will still help players when using the Light Bowgun if you have a free decoration slot or a slot on your talisman.

Critical Eye

Critical Eye –The Critical Eye skill increases your affinity, and at the max level (level 5), it gives an affinity boost of 20%. This skill, when used on a Light Bowgun with high base affinity levels, can deal massive amounts of damage to the monster with your high critical hit rate.

Weakness Exploit

Weakness Exploit –The Weakness Exploit skill increases the affinity of your attacks when they hit the monster’s weak spots and increases affinity even further when hitting or destroying wounds. When using the Light Bowgun, you will be aiming for the monster’s head and weak points such as wings and tails for the majority of the time. This will result in an overall larger number of critical hits, and once you use your Focus Strike to destroy the wounds, the increased affinity will enable you to deal huge amounts of damage.

Piercing Shots

Piercing Shots –The last skill, Piercing Shots, is a decoration-exclusive skill that can only be used by slotting in the pierce jewel. This skill increases the attack of the bowgun’s Pierce ammo and will help especially with the Light Bowguns that offer a higher level of Pierce ammo, such as those from the Rey Dau tree or the Rathian tree.

Ebony Odogaron’s Power/Burst Boost

Ebony Odogaron’s Power/Burst Boostis a set bonus skill that will activate if you have a set amount of the Guardian Ebony armor set equipped. Although this skill further enhances the Burst skill—by increasing its duration and attack power—it requires specific armor pieces to be equipped, locking you into a specific armor part.

So, these are the best skills to use with the Light Bowgun in bringing out its full potential in my opinion. I hope you find this helpful.
