If a recent leak is to be believed,Call of Duty2023 could bring with it a brand new zombies mode. Other details were revealed in the leak, such as when we can expect to see this year’sCODgame officially revealed, as well as the game’s expected release date. While these other details are also exciting, it is the mention of a zombies mode being included that has led to the palpable zombie-hype, and if the mode is indeed coming packaged into the next entry in the series, then the reveal event should be very exciting. All of the information within this leak also comes from a fairly reputable source, lending credence to the likelihood of it being true.

According to Insider Gaming, a zombies mode will be present inCall of Duty2023 at launch, however it is not clear what form it will take, as it has also been reported that the zombies mode in this game will not follow the traditional model of being round-based. Speculation is rife over what other form the zombies mode could take if not round-based, especially after the deviation from a round-based zombies mode did not go down well with the community when Sledgehammer Games attempted it inCall of Duty: Vanguard.

Call of Duty 2023 Could Include A First For TheModern WarfareSeries
What is also interesting is the fact thatCOD2023 is allegedly going to be anotherModern Warfaretitle, serving as a sequel to last year’sModern Warfare 2. The zombie mode is not commonly associated with theModern Warfareseries, traditionally being more closely tied to theBlack Opsgames. As of 2022, there has never been a fully-fledged zombies mode included in aModern Warfaretitle.
When developing last year’sModern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward opted not to include a zombies game mode, however, the team does have a history with the mode. A zombies mode was present in 2016’sInfinite Warfaredeveloped by Infinity Ward. AlthoughInfinite Warfarewas panned critically, fans did praise Infinity Ward for its innovative approach to the zombies universe, which was originally established by Treyarch. However,Call of Duty2023 is being developed by Sledgehammer Games and as previously mentioned, that team’s history with the zombies game mode is unfortunately not remembered as fondly.Call of Duty Vanguardmade the controversial decision to stray away from the round-based mechanic synonymous with the mode, instead opting for an objective-based gameplay loop. Although, to Sledgehammer’s credit, the team did take the community feedback onboard and did implement a round-based mode into the game before the end of its life-cycle.
