Chris Hemsworthis continuing to build his brand as a bona fide action star, as the Australian actor is joining forces with Halle Berry for his next action/heist/thriller,Crime 101. The movie also stars Mark Ruffalo, Monica Barbaro, and Barry Keoghan, and is directed by Bart Layton. At this year’s CinemaCon, Layton and his A-list cast took to the stage to reveal some exclusive footage from the upcoming heist thriller.

During Amazon MGM’s presentation at CinemaCon (via The Hollywood Reporter), Halle Berry, Chris Hemsworth, and the rest of the cast heaped praise on Layton’s work onCrime 101, before unveiling the first footage of the movie. “In the driver’s seat of this exciting ride is none other than our fearless director, Bart Layton,” Berry began. Chris Hemsworth followed suit, describingCrime 101as a “uniquely mesmerizing film, the kind that draws you into its world and keeps you in suspense in the last possible second.”

Another Netflix star is taking over from Chris Hemsworth.

The new footage revealed various scenes from the film. The trailer opens with Lou Lubesnick (Hemsworth) asking “What motivates me? Well, money, I guess.” Another scene involved a tense argument between Barry Koeghan and Nick Nolte’s characters in a car. “You’re not your dad. You might not have the stomach he had,” Nolte’s character screams out, before Keoghan’s responds, “I have the stomach for a lot of things.” The final clip from the trailer introduces Halle Berry’s unnamed character. According to her own description, she “write[s] insurance policies for people who have more money than they know what to do with.”

What Is ‘Crime 101’ About?

Bart Layton’sCrime 101was first announced back in 2023. While Chris Hemsworth was attached to the project from the start. Pedro Pascal was originally set to star alongside him. However, scheduling conflicts (believed to be caused by Season 2 ofThe Last of Us) resulted inPascal stepping away and Mark Ruffallo taking over.

An official synopsis forCrime 101hasn’t been revealed yet. However, we do know that the movie will follow two detectives attempting to track down a mysterious jewel thief. In the film, the thief adheres to the “Crime 101” guidelines, which tells you how to pull off the perfect heist. The script was co-written by Layton and Peter Straughan, and is based on the eponymous novella by Don Winslow.

While fans will still have to wait to get their hands on the first footage ofCrime 101, some behind-the-scenes photos from the movie’s production were released late last year. In October 2024, photos emerged of the former MCU duo,Hemsworth and Ruffalo shootingCrime 101.The leaked images didn’t reveal any major details about the movie, although they did give us our first look at the two strongest Avengers in action outside the MCU.

Crime 101hasn’t been given an official release date yet. However, with the trailer expected to be released online in the coming days, expect a release date announcement to follow shortly after.
