Despite being one of the most versatile actresses in recent times, Anne Hathaway has come across her fair share of struggles while working in showbiz for many years now. Unlike most of her peers, she doesn’t consider herself on the same level as other industry biggies when it comes to onscreen kissing, as she has endured trouble before while working on certain intimate sequences.

However, there was one time, when Hathaway felt comfortable while filming a kissing scene, as her costar was extremely professional during the whole sequence and did the scene as she wanted to.

Becoming Jane (2007)

Anne Hathaway commended the Marvel star for his professionalism

Considering that she has been in the industry for around 2-decades,Anne Hathawayhas locked her lips with several actors in order to craft the perfect kiss that is required in the film. However, according to her, most of the actors that she has come across didn’t kiss her in the manner that she felt was appropriate, as she states,“They want to attempt to make it look a bit too real if you know what I mean”. However, there was one exception, where the DC star felt comfortable while filming a kissing sequence with Marvel starJames McAvoy, as he was extremely professional with her. She recalled,

“With James, right before we started he turned to me and said, ‘Closed mouths, no tongue!’ That’s what I normally say to people so it was a pleasure working with him,”

The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004)

The two starred together in 2007’sBecoming Jane, which went on to garner a decent $39M at the box office from a budget of $16.5M, and Hathaway had nothing but nice things to say about her costar. However, not all of her kissing sequences in the industry went as smoothly as she would’ve hoped for and one of the most taxing situations occurred during her early days in the industry.

After getting her first breakthrough withThe Princess Diaries, Anne Hathaway decided to return for the sequel. However, the process of finding her love interest forThePrincess Diaries 2was more challenging than she expected, as she had to kiss a dozen of actors so that the film’s director can find the perfect actor for the role. Hathaway recalled,

“He decided to test a dozen. And I’m not that kind of girl! Don’t get me wrong, I love kissing, but the idea of having to kiss 12 different people that I’ve just met in one 10-hour period of time is a little much for me.”
