Top 10 Strongest Pokémon Starters

These Starters have carried Trainers for years.

Unfortunately, they can’t be small and cute forever as much as we’d like them to. As your partners evolve and grow stronger, you’ll notice a change in appearance for better or worse. That is why when choosing the Pokémon who will accompany you throughout the game, it’s important to consider all three evolutions, plus any unique forms depending on the game. Last thing you want is your best friend sat in a PC somewhere. It’s a cruel fate for any Pokémon, even if it can’t be avoided. Trust me, we all have that box of random Pokémon we forgot we caught for the Pokédex.

Chomp Chomp!

A fan of the crocodile I see. Totodile is an adorable creature with a mouth perfect for chomping. Can’t imagine one with a biting problem is the safest of teammates – you may land some rivals in the Pokécenter.

For something that strongly resembles a gator, when it evolves it seems to get increasingly awkward. Sorry if you’re a fan of them. Croconaw and Feraligatr sadly land Totodile in last place, looking less like their crocodile inspiration with each stage, although they do have their own charm. Feraligatr looks like the definition of no thoughts, head empty. It would be kind of sweet if he didn’t have feral in his name.

What a Cutie!

It’s no secret Mudkip is adorable. Even if we can’t quite tell what it’s meant to be, we love it all the same. But be honest, how many people actually remember he evolves? Marshstomp and Swampert have their own charm. I mean just look at that happy face! Unless you’re a die-hard Mudkip fan, however, do you know they exist?

No cute face can save the confusing inconsistencies as it evolves.Walks on fours, walks on twos, then back to fours? Not to mention the missed opportunity to have the spiky gills counted down from three points to one. They may be adorable, but when lined up they just don’t quite match.

It’s a sad lizard. Does anyone else just want to pick him up and cuddle him? As long as you keep tissues on you, this little guy is an adorable companion! Not to mention his final evolution, Inteleon is sleek and cool. So how is an adorable starter with such a nice final stage so low?

Drizzile. He’s going through a phase. It’s okay buddy, we’ve all been there. If you’re willing to accept him, all three evolutions considered, then Sobble is your guy.The stronger mid evolution stages of other starterssadly push him near the bottom, though.

Ninja Frogs!

Ah, Froakie! We all know and love it (although you probably can’t wait to evolve it into Greninja). The tiny frog has his own charm with big yellow eyes and a fluffy cloud around his neck. When evolving into Frogadier, they gain a smug smile, the clouds turning into a scarf. What a sassy creature.

Now it’s time to address the Greninja issue. Whether you love him or hate him, he’s certainly made his way through promo material. There areplenty of other starters with strong evolution lines, though. Besides, using your tongue as a scarf can’t be comfortable. How many water bottles must we go through to keep him from drying up?

How Can You Hate That Face?

Oshawott is easily one of the cutest starters. How can anyone say no to that face? Not to mention his otter characteristics make him one of the cutest to watch in the wild. But make no mistake, he’s training hard and Dewott reflects this. An angry little face with a battle stance, he’s trying his best.

Baking Up the Poké-Snacks in My Pokémon Baking Book

This brings us to Samurott. Heloses some of his otter resemblance, which places him lower than other entries. The strength of his design makes up for it, though. Watching your tiny friend finally evolve into the strongest-looking guy with armor, how can you not be proud?

Scarlet/Violet may have been a broken mess, but the Pokémon were solid. The starters reflect that. Quaxly is an adorable duckling with quite a hairdo. If you have never seen the anime’s depiction of him with unkept hair, you’re missing out.

Quaxwell and Quaquaval are both solid evolutions, not to mention stylish. While they’re not to everyone’s taste, you can’t deny Quaxly is fabulous. I need his hair routine. Let him shine on the battlefield, he seems like the type to turn it into a dance battle. It’s hard to complain about this line, but there areiconic starters that have had time to establish themselves. One day, Quaxly.

Nostalgia is Strong

We all love Squirtle. One of the three big starters. This water turtle has captured the hearts of many since the ’90s. From the adorable and lovable first stage to the graceful Wartortle. A subtle but effective change as his tail gains more volume and tiny wings appear on his head.

Of course, no one can deny Blastoise is a strong final evolution. It’s a giant turtle with water canons. Your rivals are in trouble. All three stages are iconic, holding their own ground.Nostalgia alone, however, can’t give this guy number one.Squirtle will always have a special place in our hearts, no matter his rank.

How is this Not an Ice Type?

Somehow, this little penguin isn’t an ice type at any stage. Even so, you can not deny Piplup is adorable. A tiny blue cape and a pale blue body that looks like overalls? Sold. Prinplup starts to show more intimidating features with a smaller, angrier face. He still maintains the fancy overalls look, though.

Empoleon makes penguins look like warriors. Now this is the king of Atlantis. A trident crown and gorgeous design that reflects a classic emperor penguin. A strong starter line from an iconic game, butthere is one who takes the crown for gorgeous evolutions.Sorry Piplup.

Funny Clown Seal

Surprised? The competition was tough, but our crown goes to Popplio and its evolution line. The sweet and lovable clown seal of Sun and Moon. It’s hard not to love this little guy as he blows bubbles to perform tricks. Brionne offers a smooth transition into the eventual fairy type while maintaining the clown qualities of the first form. Sweet and underrated.

Primarina seals the deal for Popplio’s crown.A stunning mermaid-inspired seal with intricate detail fitting a fairy type. It still keeps the iconic clown nose, looking adorable yet so graceful. If you hate fairy types, this isn’t for you, but the Popplio evolutions deserve some credit. They’re gorgeous.
