Anticipation is higher than ever forRogue One: A Star Wars Story, which holds its world premiere in Hollywood tomorrow, before hitting theatres around the world on December 16. While there will be a few familiar characters in this big-screen spin-off, such asDarth Vaderand Mon Mothma, fans will mostly be introduced to several new characters in this galaxy far, far away. Today we have details about one such character, the droid K-2SO, who may or may not be this film’s version of the much maligned Jar Jar Binks.
Jar Jar Binks, played byAhmed Best, is easily one of the most disliked characters in theStar Warsuniverse, who was featured inGeorge Lucas' prequel trilogy.The Huffington Postcaught up with actorAlan Tudyk, the man behind the droidK-2SO, who revealed that he did everything in his power to avoid becoming the next Jar Bar Binks, in the eyes ofStar Warsfans. Here’s what the actor had to say in his interview below.
“[Jar Jar] was such an outlier, not an outlier, an anomaly in the world, that was backed away from as quickly as they could. I did have it in mind because K-2SO can be very funny in moments, and I talked toGareth Edwards, saying, I hope I’m not coming across as a character that makes jokes, that he is a sarcastic character or a passive-aggressive character or an honest character that can be funny within a moment, especially these moments of high-stakes life and death, which this movie has a lot of ― you know, it’a a war movie. He told me that I wasn’t, so I trusted him, and I’m really happy with the outcome.”

The studio is also planning a third spin-off for 2020, which has been rumored to center on Boba Fett.
