James Gunnmay have made a move from Marvel to DC, but he still has been avidly promotingGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This is something that one fan couldn’t get their head around when calling out the director’s “blatant disrespect” to his new employee by still pushing his last Marvel Studios project. When the comments surfaced onGunn’s Instagram account, it did not take long for the writer-director to shut down the criticism.

There has often been an almost mythological rivalry between Marvel and DC, and for that reason many fans seem to be under the impression they are always trapped in some kind eternal war like those seen within the pages of their respective comics. However, that is not exactly the case, and as Gunn pointed, it would be bad form to turn his back on something that he had been part of for over a decade.

When Gunn shared a behind the scenes image fromGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, one of Gunn’s followers commented, “The worst business that DC could do was to hire someone who advertises the competition,” one fan wrote in the comments. “Unbelievable, now can you imagine what their movies are going to be like??? I think it’s a disaster.” In response, Gunn said:

“The last thing DC would want is someone who would spend the last 12 years of his life creating a series of films, and then turn his back on his last movie. I wasn’t hired at DC without everyone on board being very clear and supportive up front and continuously through this process.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Brings James Gunn’s MCU Journey To a Close

While there is no way of knowing what the future holds, it is likely thatGuardians of the Galaxy Vol 3will be the last time James Gunn works on a Marvel film for any length of time. Having nowtaken the helm of DC Studios, Gunn has his hands full as the writer and director ofSuperman: Legacyand working out the rest of the new DCU but as he has said, it would not be right to duck out of making sure his final Marvel outing does the best it possibly can.

The synopsis of the movie reveals that “In Marvel Studios’Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.” Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova,Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3opens only in theaters May 5 and will hopefully manage to avoid the similar disappointment seen by many recent MCU movies.
