Apple TV+ has unveiled the official trailer forServantseason 2. The acclaimed psychological thriller is executive produced by Academy Award-nominated director M. Night Shyamalan. The ten-episode second season will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with the first episodeon January 15th, 2021, followed by new episodes weekly, every Friday. After the events of last season, fans are waiting to have some mysteries solved over some brand-new slow burning episodes.
Following its suspenseful season one finale ofServant, the second seasontakes a supernatural turn, which is teased in the new trailer, along with a lot of sinister darkness. There is a darker future for all lying ahead as Leanne returns to the brownstone and her true nature is revealed. The cast of the hit series includes Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Toby Kebbell (Kong: Skull Island), Nell Tiger Free (Game of Thrones), and Rupert Grint (Harry Potterfranchise), who will all reprise their characters for the second season.
M. Night Shyamalan tweeted the new trailer this morning, along with a caption reading, “Goals: 1 story. 40 episodes. Written and directed by talented artists from around the world. Aspiring to hold each of the 40 episodes to the highest standards of cinema.” It appears that the crew has accomplished their goals, as the trailer teases some intense moments that may very well carry over into season 3 and beyond. Shyamalan previously said that “during quarantine [we] worked out the conclusion of our show on the board in our library. We have started our writer’s room for Seasons 3 & 4. I love working on this show. Learning a ton about storytelling.”
Servantdebuted in November 2019 to widespread praise from viewers and critics.Servant Season 2 was announcedbefore the first season had even aired. In January 2020, Francesca Gregorini filed a lawsuit against the show’s producers including Tony Basgallop and M. Night Shyamalan, and Apple TV+, alleging copyright infringement for her 2013 drama,The Truth About Emanuel. Both Basgallop and Shyamalan responded to the allegations, noting that they had never seen the movie in question, and any similarities must have been a coincidence. In May 2020, a federal judge threw out the lawsuit against Shyamalan andApple, ruling that the TV show is not close enough to Gregorini’s 2013 movie. The court went even further in making sure that Gregorini had to pay the defendants' attorneys' fees since there were no real similarities between the two projects.
Servantis created by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts nominated executive producer and writer Tony Basgallop. In addition to Shyamalan and Basgallop, the series is executive produced by Ashwin Rajan, Jason Blumenthal, Todd Black and Steve Tisch.
