Into the Wilds

In case you missed it, this year’sThe Game Awards 2023was jam-packed with not onlyawardsbut announcements. One of them being the reveal of the next major Monster Hunter in the series Wilds. Unlike the previous titleMonster Hunter Rise, Wilds will not be released as a Switch exclusive or on the Switch at all, instead coming to multiple platforms this time around.

Monster Hunter Worldwas also first released on consoles and then later came to PC, which had to catch up in terms of content. Eventually, the platforms ran on the same cycle of content. It looks like Monster Hunter Wilds however will launch simultaneously.

New Mechanics Hinted

So far from the trailer we know there are some new mechanics coming with the next entry, most notably monster gliding or flying. Mounts are a part of the gameplay similar to how Rise hadPalamutes, except these seem to be airborne. This seems quite different from World’s Raider Rise mechanic, as players didn’t have direct control over the smaller monsters transporting them.

Whatever the Weather

Weather is also another hinted factor in the footage, with lightning striking down as the player tries their best to dodge its reach by leaping out of the way. It’s unclear if there will be other climate aspects involved or whether these are brought on by certain monsters or biomes.

An Open World of Possibility

Another interesting speculation is that some believe this could be an open-world game. The trailer shows wide open spaces and travelling around by mount or small monster. As the game is released on modern hardware there will be no restrictions compared to the release of Rise on Switch this time. This could open up exploration within the game, and really make the game earn the title of ‘Wilds’.

With the introduction of theWirebugin Rise, this could be the next evolution in the franchise, opening up more ways to explore. Adding mechanics such as gliding and mounts does give a sense of a grander scale world. There isn’t any confirmation on this yet, so it will be great to find out more about the world of Monster Hunter Wilds.
