Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build (High Rank)- In this Monster Hunter Wilds guide, i’ll be sharing with you aLancebuild that you may use once you’ve reached the late game after the credits have rolled. At this point in the game you will go into the High Rank environments and progress towards the end-game.
This build is aimed to fully augment the defensive capabilities of the Lance and will revolve around your Guarding and Counters, fully utilizing the guarding abilities of the lance weapon, while providing ways to increase your attack and damage from guarding. Although this build will not have any skills to improve your mobility, it is aimed towards mitigating the need to evade and will enable you to block all the incoming attacks from the monster making situations where mobility is needed few and far between.

Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build - Weapons
Rompo Piercer II
For this Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build, the main weapon we will be using is theRompo Piercer IIfrom the Rompopolo tree.
This lance is a rarity 5 lance that has the Poison status effect infusion, meaning you will be able to inflict the monsters with poison from your counters and perfect guards. The skill on this weapon is theGuard Upskill, which will allow you to guard against attacks that are otherwise unblockable such as roars, tremors, wind pressure and huge attacks the monsters do when they are furious. The Rompopolo Piercer II will have theGuard UpLv 2, reducing the damage taken from huge attacks that were previously unblockable by 50%

This skill is the main reason we are going to use this lance as our main weapon in the build. The aim is to try and face-tank anything and everything the monster throws at you with your upgraded guarding capability. With this skill, you will be able to perfect guard through roars and tremors, then strike back with a counter thrust. For the larger attacks from monsters, going into power guard with this skill will reduce the damage take even further, allowing you to stand in place without even needing to dodge while staying in range of the monster.
Rey Indra I
Alternatively, if you want a little more offensive power, you may use the Lance from the Rey Dau tree, theRey Indra I.
This is a rarity 3 Lance with thunder element and it has the skills ofOffensive GuardandGuard. The Offensive Guard skill will increase your attack value by a set amount after a guard or a perfect guard, temporarily. And the Guard skill will decrease the impact of the attacks and reduce the stamina depletion cost when guarding an attack.

You can upgrade this lance into theRey Indra IInot too long after reaching the late-game and it is a completely viable lance to use till you’ve reached the end-game. The only downside is that you will deal less damage when using this lance to hunt theRey Dauitself but this can be alleviated by having a secondary weapon that does not have thunder element.
Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build - Armor
For the armor combination for this Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build, we will be using the three pieces of theDoshaguma Setand two pieces of theRathian Set.
The three pieces of the Doshaguma Armor Set will be theDoshaguma Mail Beta,Doshaguma Braces BetaandDoshaguma Coil Beta.

The reason why we use 3 pieces of the Doshaguma Set is for the group skill,Alluring Pelt, which will give us theDiversionskill. What this skill does is draw the aggro of the monster towards you whenever you attack it, allowing you to fill the role of a tank for your hunting party.
These three pieces will also give us the first level of the Set Bonus skill,Doshaguma’s Might,Powerhouse I. This skill will temporarily gives you a +10 boost to you attack power after a successful powerclash when using the Lance.

For other skills, theDoshaguma Mail Betahas the skillLatent PowerLv 1,Doshaguma Braces BetahaveStun ResistanceLv 1 andStamina SurgeLv 1, and theDoshaguma Coil Betaalso hasLatent PowerLv 1.
TheLatent Powerskill will help in dealing damage with your thrust during your hunts as it will activate after a certain amount of time has passed and will increase your affinity by a certain amount and will reduce your stamina depletion when it is active. The skill activates after 300 seconds have passed since the start of your hunt or you have taken 180 damage from the monster. The three pieces of Doshaguma Armor set will give us Latent Power Lv 2 and this will increase your affinity by 20% and reduce your stamina depletion by 30%.
TheStamina Surgeskill will help you maintain your guard up as guarding hits consume stamina, and Stamina Surge will increase the recovery speed by 10%
We also getStun ResistanceLv 1 from the braces, which will reduce the duration of being stunned by 30%.
All these skills will help when using the lance, especiallyStamina Surgesince performing Power Guard will continuously drain your stamina while you are guarding and you can quickly run out of stamina and leave yourself wide open if you do not get the timing right.
For the two pieces of the Rathian Set, theRathian Helm AlphaandRathian Greaves Alphawill give us theDivine Blessing,Recovery speedandForaySkills.
Divine BlessingLv1 will give you a chance to reduce the damage you take by 15%. Since its just a chance, it isnt very reliable, but nontheless useful for defense in this build.
We also get the max level of theRecovery Speedskill at level 3, which increases the rate at which you heal the red portion of your health passively after taking a hit. At the max level this skill will Quadruple the speed at which you heal the recoverable damage making it possible to stand tall and guard longer before needing to use a potion to heal back up.
Lastly we have theForayLv 1 skill, which works perfectly with the main weapon we are using for this build, theRompoplo Piercer II. This is because the Foray skill increases the damage you deal against monsters that are affected by Poison or Paralysis, specifically +6 to your attack value when you hit a poisoned monster, which the Rompoplo Piercer can apply.
As a lance user, you will want to draw the Monster’s attention most of the time and will be taking the full brunt of the attack which you’re able to block and mitigate easily. This build will allow you to do that with theGuard Upand the stamina reinforcement from theLatent Powerand the Stamina Skills and if any of the attacks get through your blocks, the Recovery speed up skill will allow you to heal back up quickly and stay in the thick of it.
Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build - Talisman
For the talisman for this Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build, we will be using theSurge Charmfor theStamina SurgeLv 1 skill. This will max out our Stamina Surge skill and will increase our stamina regeneration rate by 50%. This allows us to keep blocking without having to worry about running out of stamina just by letting go of the guard button a little in between the Monster’s attacks.
Alternatively, you may use theMarathon Charmfor theMarathon Runnerskill. This will reduce the stamina depletion rate when you are using your Power Guard and will let you hold it longer when the huge attacks are coming your way. The benefit of using this charm is you can upgrade it to the Marathon Charm III to get the max level and as we are not using any pieces that give us the Marathon Runner skill, we will not be wasting any excess levels.
Decorations
The decorations you will receive from your hunts are random, so what you have at this point in the game will vary quite alot from player to player, but we’ll still cover it in this Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build. As such, decorations are not an essential part of this build, but there are some recommended decoration to equip if you find them.
Weapon Decorations
The Rompo Piercer IIwill give us one Level 2 decoration slot and one Level 1 decoration slot. If you are lucky enough to get aShield Jewel 1, you can slot it in to max out theGuard Upskill and further reduce the damage from the huge attacks up to 50%.
If you have anIron Wall Jewel 2, you can slot it in the level 2 slot to gain theGuardskill while using the Rompo Piercer II. This skill will reduce the stamina depletion when you block attacks and will help you with your Guards and Power Guards more with the huge attacks from the monsters.
If you want something a little offensive, you can use theGuardian Jewels. This decoration will give you the Offensive Guard skill which will increase your attack value by a certain percentage at each level.
These three decorations are the ideal options you would want to use with the lance, but as mentioned earlier are not the core components of the build. You can easily swap out these decorations, and slot in what you have.
Armor Decorations
For the armor Decorations, the Helm will have one level 2 slot, the Mail will have three level 1 slots, the Braces will have one level 2 and level 1 slo, and the Coil will have two level 2 slots. This will make a total of 4 level 2 slots and 4 level 1 slots for all the armor pieces. These slots can be used to max out the skills you already have from the armor set we are using or to add additional skills that will help us generally.
Ideally, having 2Refresh Jewel 2decorations will allow you to use two of the level 2 slots and max out theStamina Surgeskill, which will increase your stamina regeneration rate by 50% and this will allow you to use theMarathon Charmor any other one you like in the talisman slot.
Another great level 2 decoration is thePotential Jewel 2which will give you theHeroicsLv1 skill. This skill will increase your defense by +50 when your health drops to or below 35% and will give you a better chance to heal back up from your injuries.
This skill will also increase your attack power at low health at higher levels if you have more than one Jewel to put into the last remaining slot.
For the level one decoration slots, ideally, havingPhysique Jewel Iwill allow you to use theConstitutionskill, which will reduce the stamina depletion whenever you block a hit.
you may also stay simple and slot in Defense Jewels for an increase in pure defense values to withstand the monster’s attacks better.
For the Mantle for this Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build, theMending Mantleis amazing for this build as it will restore your health back to full over time if you haven’t taken a hit for a set amount of time. This mantle will allow you to heal back up if you missed a block or your stamina ran out during your power guard.
This Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Build is meant to provide you with a very strong guarding ability and tank everything the monsters will be throwing at you, so you won’t be very mobile when using this build. Even sheathing your weapon will take longer compared to other weapons, and as such you need to play safe when facing large attacks without enough stamina or health left to go into a power guard. In such situations, you would need to evade those attacks and your only option is to call your seikret to quickly move out of the way. If you decide to sheathe your weapon and try to run, more often than not, you will be caught in the middle of the attack and you won’t dodge in time.
Although this build has a skill that will help you recover health passively, the slow nature of the lance itself means that if you want to sheathe the weapon and consume a recovery item, you will take longer than other weapon users as the lance takes relatively longer to sheathe compared to other weapons. This build does not utilize any skills that will let you consume your items faster and as such, you will take time using the items if you took some attacks and need to recover.
Progression Route
Weapon Progression
As you progress through the late game, at a certain point, you will face a temperedLaLa Barinaand after this point, tempered variants of the monsters will become available to hunt and you will be able to forge theArtian Weapons. Initially, you will be able toforgethe Artian Weapons at rarity 6 and these weapons are very strong weapons that can bring you to the end game on your road to farming your strongest weapon and armor. you’re able to forge higher rarity levels of Artian Weapons as you progress through the game and hunt higher levels of tempered monsters.
You will need Artian Materials to forge the Artian Weapons, which you can by hunting tempered variants of the Monsters. Different weapons will require different combinations of three Artian materials to forge. In order to forge the Artian Lance, you’ll need one broken blade and two cracked discs.
Note that the affinity, attack power and elements of the Artian weapons are not fixed and will depend on the parts you are using when forging the weapon. The infusion of the parts used when you are forging the weapon will determine the attack power and the affinity of the Artian Weapon.
Armor Progression
A solid armor to upgrade into for the lance user as you progress through the game is theGravious Set. The skills this set includes areTremor Resistance,Flinch Free,Recovery SpeedandPeak Performance. This combination of skills will bolster your defense more, and also increase your damage at maximum health with Peak Performance. As a lance user, you will be blocking most of the damage and this skill increases your attacking power from being good at defending and blocking with your shield.
Final Thoughts
This Lance build focuses on keeping your guard up all times and performing perfect guards and counters to deal damage to the monster. The combination of the skills this build provides will let you fulfil the dream of being the shield against everything but you will need to block all the attacks. While focusing on defense, this build also has the ability to enhance your offensive abilities from the multiple decoration slots available, having the potential to be strong both offensively and defensively if you have the right decorations to use.
When using the lance with this build , you will be focusing more on blocking and counter attacking rather than being on the offensive with your thrusts. As such you will trigger power clashes more often compared to other weapon users and the set bonus from 3 pieces of the Doshaguma set will help by increasing your damage.
Remember, where other weapon users would rather dodge than block, it is the complete opposite for the Lance users, especially with this build. As blocking the huge attacks from the monsters with your power guard will allow you deal counter attacks that deal massive damage with a fully charged Grand Retribution Thrust attack. But be sure to keep your eye on your stamina bar before you go in for the power guard for the huge attack as being caught out of stamina in the middle of the huge attacks from monsters in the furious state can often prove fatal if you are not careful.
