After all,Spider-Man: Far From Homeis playing in 4,634 theaters, which is in itself a record-breaker for the month of July. As mentioned above,Spider-Man: Far From Home’s opening day haul is the best showing ever for a movie opening on a Tuesday, (not adjusted for inflation) besting previous record holderThe Amazing Spider-Manwhich snagged $35M back in July 2012.
Spider-Man: Far From Home’s success isn’t much of surprise considering the movie has a current 93% fresh rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: “A breezily unpredictable blend of teen romance and superhero action, Spider-Man: Far from Home stylishly sets the stage for the next era of the MCU.” Plus it’s coming off all the good faith ofAvengers: Endgamewhich managed to pull in a current domestic total of $842.7 million, plus a foreign haul of $1.9 billion for a current worldwide total of $2.7 billion. Whoa.
And let’s not forget, director Jon Watt’s and Tom Holland’s previous Spider-Man adventureSpider-Man: Homecomingwas no slouch either. That film scored itself a 92% fresh rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that read: “Spider-Man: Homecomingdoes whatever a second reboot can, delivering a colorful, fun adventure that fits snugly in the sprawling MCU without getting bogged down in franchise-building.” Not only that, but the first flick snagged a box-office total of $334.2 million here in the states and a worldwide total of $880.1 million on a budget of $175 million. Not too shabby.
