Unveiled gameplay at the Ubisoft Forward for Star Wars Outlaws, is the “first-ever” open-world title in the series' history.
Star Wars Outlaws is the First Open World Game in the Franchise
Another Star Wars title is coming in 2024. This time it’s Star War Outlaws which is boasting the “first-ever” open-world game in the franchise. A 10-minute video showed gameplay footage atSummer Game Fest 2023during the Ubisoft Forward, showing scoundrels doing what they do best. The video is a straight-up walkthrough of the action-adventure game.
Outlaws is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and the Return of the Jedi. The video description teases planet exploration, and using any means necessary to fight your way out of crime syndicates.
Playing as a Scoundrel
Meet Kay Vess, a scoundrel accompanied by her floofy axolotl-type creature companion Nix, as she navigates a covert mission. The gameplay shows stealth as Kay tries to avoid the gaze of enemies. Nix can be commanded to sniff things out and even press a button to provide some cover. But things quickly go awry when she is discovered. It turns into a fight with a lot of pew-pew action, leading to the character grappling her way out and escaping upon hoverbike.
The action doesn’t end there, as she is chased by further foes trying to stop her. Turns out it’s a delivery mission as she takes the precious cargo to her client. As with all shady deals, the package is for a broker. Kay is warned that the broker she’s dealing with is not to be trusted. Wise words as an Imperial member is waiting, trying to gain a piece of the action.
Space Battles
Making a quick exit upon a ship, Kay launches skyward to escape the perils of the current planet. The world looks expansive, especially heading into hectic space travel. There’s plenty more action awaiting in space, as the ship fires and avoids enemy forces.
So not only is there combat on the planets themselves, but space combat too. The game follows a main character, similar to howStar Wars Jedi: Survivorwas set up. However, this title will have an open world to explore, meaning it could be a massive game to explore. It also contrasts following a scoundrel, rogues operating outside of mainstream galactic society instead playing as one of the Jedi.
Star Wars Outlawswill be launching in 2024 for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
