The new trailer forThe Witcher 4reveals additional details about the cinematic presentation we saw in December 2024 as part ofThe Game Awards.
How The Witcher 4 Weaves Ciri and Mioni’s Stories Together
The first trailer forThe Witcher 4was one of the biggest surprises atThe Game Awards 2024, showcasing a more battle-hardened Ciri than ever before. She fully embraces her path as a witcher and the successor to Geralt of Rivia in a brand-new saga storyline.
Moments such as the monster fight, Ciri’s confrontation with the villagers, and Mioni’s tragic fate have been etched into fans' memories.

However, there are still some lesser-known aspects of this cinematic trailer, now explored by CD Projekt in a “behind-the-scenes” feature you’re able to watch below:
This over 10-minute deep dive analyzes theThe Witcher 4reveal trailer while also unveiling new details about Ciri’s character, who has clearly matured since the original RPG trilogy.

Perhaps the most striking element is the parallel between Ciri—who embraces her destiny as a witcher while challenging its doctrines—and Mioni, a young girl destined to be sacrificed in a pagan ritual.
In the end, Mioni is sacrificed, fulfilling her fate under Ciri’s sorrowful gaze. Unlike what Geralt of Rivia might have done, Ciri walks away from the scene, unmoved by the villagers' absurd justifications.

A Cinematic Trailer with a Lot of Effort
The team at CD Projekt confirms that it took 14 days to complete the motion capture and recording sessions for The Witcher 4 trailer—not counting the countless hours spent on sound recording, editing, and final assembly.
The Polish studio aimed to make it feel like a “real movie”, employing various cinematic techniques, such as the lighting effects during Ciri’s fight against the Bauk.
New details about the fearsome monster have also been revealed. For instance, its design was inspired by the physique of a dinosaur but with humanoid features to enhance its terrifying presence.
It took four operators to “perform” the Bauk and its erratic movements, highlighting just how complex and costly this first trailer forThe Witcher 4was.
Additional details about the RPG confirm that its story is in good hands, featuring new regions and never-before-seen monsters, along with a more immersive NPC experience than in previous titles.
The Witcher 4is currently in development atCD Projekt RED, with no known release window. It is expected to launch sometime after 2026 and, barring any surprises, will be available onPS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC—though the Polish studio has yet to officially confirm the platforms.
