For a very long time now, theMetal Gear Solidfranchise has remained dormant within the larger gaming landscape, with only remakes and remasters to its name in the past few years.

However, many will remember just how far ahead of its time the series was, with themes and narratives that are being played out in our current society. The newest and most hilarious instance of this has now come from an AI-generated video that echoesMGS 2‘s themes to a T.

MGS 2 Called Out AI on Its Incompetency a Long Time Ago

WhileMetal Gear SolidDeltalooks to take us back to the franchise’s roots very soon, most fans of the series remain fascinated by how accurateMGS 2was in predicting the future, reverse-echoing the ongoing events of today.

“They’re a part of these games too”: Despite a Fractious Relationship, Konami Confirm Hideo Kojima Will be Involved in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater in 1 Way

Out of everything that this game’s narrative did, the thing that stands out the most is how the Patriots’ AI were incredibly lackluster in implementing Boss’ will, trying to control information and society.

Now, we are beginning to see a lighter version of the same incompetency in today’s world, as seen by the AI-generated video that tried to extend many of theMetal Gearfranchise’s cutscenes, failingly so:

Admittedly, from turning a classicMetal Gearscene into an 80s bad cop flick to making the characters look straight out ofFortnite, it is genuinely hilarious how funny some of the generated content is.

Now, while there are certainly some advancements being made to the technology, it’s clear that we may be many years away from seeing something genuinely groundbreaking and akin to what the Patriots’ AI was capable of.

Perhaps that’s for the best, too, as it’s best that an AI capable of controlling governance and surveillance the way we saw inMGS 2and its direct sequel,Guns of the Patriots, never comes into existence. We don’t have ourselves a Solid Snake to save us from it, after all.

MGS 2 continues to remain the strangest game in existence

Now, whileMetal Gear Solid 3is clearly considered the greatest game within the seriesfrom a narrative standpoint,MGS 2has been a peculiar gem in and of itself.

From the uncanny way it delivered to its predictions about digital information, the game continues to stay relevant to this day. What’s interesting is how, from a mechanical standpoint as well, it is still a game that can pass for a modern indie title, if not AAA.

Watching the rise of AI and how it continues to take shape into something more significant, one cannot help but remember just how much of a visionary Hideo Kojima was.

With that said, the next time you stumble upon some AI-generated slop that makes you chuckle at its absurdity, remember thatMGS 2called it a long time ago, and perhaps take comfort, too, knowing that we are still ways off from the dystopian future that the series portrayed back then.
