PEAK is many things, but it is, unsurprisingly, notan accurate simulation of how you should go about climbing or trying to survive in extreme conditions. This is exemplified by the Toxicology Badge, which basically requires that you intentionally deal severe poison to yourself, just to then heal it with items you’ve scavenged on your climb.

This guide helps walk players through how to earn this deceptively tough badge, including its basics and some strategies to make nabbing it easier.

The Basics of the Toxicology Badge
The Toxicology Badge is an Accolade in PEAK that arguably represents a moderately tough challenge (with something likethe Foraging Badgemucheasier, but something like actually reaching the Peakmuchharder). This badge is earned by healing 200 Poison damage with recovery items, like the Antidote.
Toxicology is an example of a badge most players don’t earn unless actively aiming to get the badge, as it requires both taking severe amounts of Poison damage and then using items to heal that Poison. With that said, even newer players can get the badge pretty easily with the right item spawns.

Earning the Toxicology Badge nets you the fangs cosmetic item, as well as an achievement if playing on Steam.
If going for this badge, you’ll typically want to meet its requirements before finishing the Tropics. Youcantake Poison damage and find items to recover from poison beyond that point, but your opportunities will be more limited.

Poison and Recovery
Poison damage, which is purple and topped by a skull, comes from a number of different sources, including:
Poison is most commonly an issue in the Tropics, with the bulk of its causes found in that biome. Poison damage will slowly vanish on its own, but natural recovery won’t count for the Toxicology badge. To earn the badge, you need to heal 200 Poison damage through items. Notable items that can heal Poison include:

Two items can also heal poison damage in a radius, the Faerie Lantern and the Remedy Fungus, although it was unclear in testing if these items could contribute to your healing total for Toxicology (it would make logical sense that these healing sources also count).
Pandora’s Lunchbox can also technically heal poison, but that item is relatively rare and has randomized effects that make it hard to rely upon.

Remember to communicate with your team about the items you’re finding and whether you’d like to go for Toxicology. Many players ignore Antidotes once they have the Toxicology badge, as Poison damage heals on its own and Antidotes take up an item slot, but if other players know you still need it, they may be able to carry one over or at least tell you where to get one. Antidotescansave time, which is a valuable resource, but the reality is that you’ll usually fill up your inventory with items that are better if you’re not trying to get the Toxicology Badge.
Helpful Strategies
Toxicology is a badge that’s relatively difficult to earn passively. This is because it requires two things to be true:
In testing, the badge was earned by first waiting for a good opportunity to earn the badge and then only seeking to get it once that opportunity arose. More specifically, it is helpful to wait for the part that is more difficult to control, finding items that heal poison, before trying to get the badge.
Once you have an item that heals poison, you may then justintentionallypoison yourself. This is easiest in the Tropics, where both poison bushes and the thorny vines can be used to deal yourself a controlled amount of Poison. Once you’ve taken around the maximum dose of poison that whatever healing item you have can heal, you then back off and use your item.
8 Best Survival Games for Beginners
You don’t need to be an experienced survivalist with a degree to enjoy these video games.
The most obvious item for this purpose is an Antidote, but any item that heals Poison damage should theoretically work (what’s important is that you use an item to heal the damage, rather than just waiting to naturally recover). One obstacle you may encounter is that 200 Poison damage seems to be a lot. While there isn’t an easy way to track your health, the playerseemedto get the Toxicology bar after healing about two full bars of worth (which would make sense, as that would mean full health is 100 HP).
If inventory space is limited, you can also tackle this badge in bursts. While all the damage needs to be healed in the same run, you can just quickly poison yourself and go through a full Antidote or similar item whenever you find one. Just remember to do the mental math on how much total poison the items you have will heal, so you don’t overpoison yourself while looking for your next healing source.
The minimum number of items needed to heal the necessary damage couldn’t be determined in testing, but the player that obtained it ended up using a full Antidote and some of a second Antidote. To minimize the items you need, remember tomaximizethe poison you’re healing. If you miscalculate and take slightly more than you can heal with the items you’ve found, it will still naturally recover.
