Disney’sVision and the Scarlet WitchTV series has found its woman in charge withCaptain Marvelwriter Jac Schaeffer. With Netflix slowly and painfully doing away with their corner of the Marvel universe, Marvel Studios is getting ready to make a more proper push to have their characters featured on the small screen, as they’ve been developing shows for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service that will feature characters from the movies, as played by the respective actors. Now, we have a bit of info on how one of those shows is progressing.
According to a new report,Vision and the Scarlet Witchhas tapped Jac Schaeffer to pen the pilot script for the series, in addition to serving as showrunner and executive producer. It’s expected that bothPaul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsonwill be reprising their roles as the characters, but for the time being, Marvel is remaining tight-lipped on the matter. Beyond that, few details are being disclosed, so it’s not yet clear during what time period this show will take place. Though, there are a couple of years to explore betweenCaptain America: Civil WarandInfinity Warthat could be put to good use.
This is a huge gig for Jac Schaeffer, who has really been on the rise over the last year or so. Not only is she one of the credited screenwriters onCaptain Marvel, the first female-fronted solo movie in theMCUup to this point, but she also penned the upcomingBlack Widowsolo movie, which is something fans have been looking forward to for a long time. Additionally, she wrote the shortOlaf’s Frozen Adventure. Point being, Disney really seems to like her. Enough to trust her with a major TV series anyway.
Unlike theNetflix Marvel shows, these shows being made for Disney+ will have heavy ties to the MCU. They’re also expected to have a budget roughly equivalent to one of the movies, which means Disney is going to be investing a lot of money. In addition toVision and Scarlet Witch, they are also prepping a Loki series, which will see Tom Hiddleston reprise his role as the trickster god, as well as a Falcon and Winter Soldier team-up show featuring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. There was also a rumor floating around that a Rocket and Groot series is being discussed.
It still isn’t quite clear when we could see these shows start popping up, but 2020 seems like a safe bet at this point, asDisney+isn’t even slated to launch until later this year. Another important item of note is that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who is largely credited with the success that the MCU movies have enjoyed over the last decade, will be directly involved in these shows. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as more details on theVision and Scarlet Witchseries are made available. This news was first reported byThe Hollywood Reporter.
