What We Do in the Shadowshas now been nominated for Emmys for every one of its five seasons thus far. And, now thatthe nominations have been announcedfor Season 5,those behind the show must have found it a fitting time to announce the release date of Season 6.Which has already beenconfirmed as the show’s final hurrah. It has now been revealed (viaVariety) that the sixth and final season will begin on October 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, with the first three episodes of Season 6 making their debut. The following eight episodes will then drop on a weekly basis, with each episode available to stream the following day on Hulu.
So, what can fans expect to see happen to Kayvan Novak’s Nandor the Relentless, Matt Berry’s Laszlo Cravensworth, Natasia Demetriou’s Nadja of Antipaxos, Harvey Guillén’s Guillermo de la Cruz, Mark Proksch’s Colin Robinson, and Kristen Schaal’s The Guide? Here’s the official description for the final season:
“After a very brief stint as a full-blown vampire, Guillermo is re-evaluating his life. Who is he if not a familiar who will do anything to please his Master in hopes of one day being turned into a vampire? Meanwhile, the vampires are re-evaluating, too. When their former roommate reappears after a 50-year nap, they realize how little they’ve done in half a century – not one goal accomplished, not one dream pursued, not one part of the New World conquered (except for their street and part of Ashley Street).”

What We Do in the Shadowshas been remarkably consistent throughout its run. And each subsequent year has made that seem like more and more of a tightrope walk. The hit series is based on a mockumentary film that’s already fairly high-concept, and yet the show has managed to take what the film established and build upon it in ways that are funny and true to the characters. Thedevelopment of Laszlo(Matt Berry) and (Mark Proksch) Colin Robinson have been particularly fulfilling, especially in Season 4.
Season 5 left things on a particularlyscary note for Guillermo(Harvey Guillén), which has made the year-long wait the hardest yet. He spent Season 5 as a blood-sucker…but the bite from his friend Derek didn’t quite take. However, that’s not the biggest problem, as being turned into a vampire by someone other than the familiar’s master is highly frowned upon in the vampiric community. And, now, Nandor (Kayvan Novak) knows. Which can only spell trouble.

Thankfully, the end of the fourteen-month wait is nearly here. It’ll besad to see the vamps go, but it’s respectable that the show is going out on its own terms, before things grow stale, and should ensure that the series is fondly remembered for years to come.
