CD Projekt Red has postponed the development of the Witcher 3 ‘next-gen’ updates for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Witcher 3 PS5 and Xbox Series X Update Postponed Indefinitely

CD Projekt Red have shared an announcement about the current state ofThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntnext-gen versions, which were slated to release in the first half of 2022. They have decided to reevaluate the release of the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series versions, also moving the rest of the development to in-house.

We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice. 1/2

Previously the studio Saber Interactive who were the ones behind theNintendo Switch porthas been working on the project. The next-gen versions haven’t been given an update release window, but the later tweet explains the developer will give an update soon.

Xbox Series X

CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3 would be getting a next-gen version. Previously the developer had stated that they were uncertain whether the next-gen versions would be released but were originally aiming for late 2021, which then got delayed. The enhanced edition for The Witcher 3 for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S promises to include ray-tracing and faster loading times. Cyberpunk 2077 received a PS5 and Xbox Series upgrade back in February.

Just last monthCD Projekt Red confirmed that a fourth Witcher gamewas in the works, a brand new saga for the franchise, not many details were given but an image of a cat or possibly lynx was teased with the confirmation.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available as a standalone purchase for PC, Xbox Series X and Playstation 5, and there will be a free update for those who currently own the game on those platforms.
